"Despite being dead for 70 years, George Orwell may become the latest public figure to be cancelled after a left-wing journalist called him a "vile man" who aided the Nazis with his strident criticism of Stalinist Russia.

Yes, really.

"In addition to being a gov snitch, fraud George Orwell spent WWII demonizing the USSR as it defeated Nazism," tweeted Ben Norman…."

Ha, may as well sit him next to those anti-Stalin heroes of nazism, Patton and Churchill.

I recommend we establish a Group W bench for them.

Every time I think this movement cannot get any more stupid and unbelievable it surpasses itself. Despair fills me as a former history teacher.

They have to eliminate him because he pulled the curtain back, revealing the "wizards" behind it…

This isn't about anti-Stalinism, it's about '1984' and 'Animal Farm'. Which is ironic, given that the right-wingers claim they're Commie propaganda.

Thresher0109 Jul 2020 10:45 p.m. PST

Orwell was right to mock Stalin, since he called far more people (many of his own in the purges) than Hitler ever did.

Cerdic10 Jul 2020 6:52 a.m. PST

How can anyone read "Animal Farm" and think it is Communist propaganda?

They must have the comprehension skills of an amoeba!

Remember, some are more equal than others.

100 million dead is a reasonable figure for all who have been killed by communism in the 20th century, not counting wars. I am sure that if we all pull together that we can top that figure in the 21st century.

"called" should be "killed", in my above post.

Stupid voice recognition software.

I think equating the left with Communism is like equating right wing with Facism. And neither bunch of extremists are preferable to the other, so all that stuff about Nazis being not as bad as Communists is also gibberish.

But yes utterly insane nonsense

Col Durnford11 Jul 2020 5:55 a.m. PST

I doubt you will find anyone saying Nazis are not as bad a communist. Quite the opposite. I have heard some folks say that it is just a matter that communism has just not been done right.

Kinda like saying the only reason we can't fly by flapping are arms like a bird, is because we are not doing it right.

Funny thing. Soon as WWII was over, who did the USSR select to run the GDR, East Germany? Who were the most loyal Communists? Answer, former Nazis to a large degree. What seemed to be at two opposite ends of an extreme range, so often proved just to be extremists who would tackle any radical ideology that suited their agenda.

Orwell was anti fascist (and fought as such) but he was a Trotskyite rather than an anarchist. The snag of course, in Spain, was the three way split with the Stalinist gents. To some degree they still dominate left wing thinking alas.

As a kid I never understood what an ice axe was doing in Mexico City pre war. I never knew what an ice pick was and, to this day, I have never seen a real one. But I would not want one through my head whatever my political philosophy.
