I recently picked up Clash of Spears. really impressed with the rules. want to try them out on the table. so I'm making some army lists but one sentence has got me confused..

on page 117, it says "Although there is no other limitation to the number of characters in your force, playtesting has shown that it is a good building principle to have at least 50% more total command points than number if units in the war party."

It's probably me, but depending on the time of day, I take it both ways. do you want more than 50% of the number of units OR number of units +50% for the total number of CPs?

so if an war party has 6 units;
3 CPs or more (i'd go a 4 or 5)(6/2 = 3 plus some extra)
OR
9 CPs (6 + 3 = 9)

if anyone has some wisdom, please share. Thanks in advance!

No wisdom, but I'd say 9.

There's also a FB page for the rules.

I'd say 9 too. I agree that it is a very impressive set of rules.

thanks guys!

I would say that is wisdom enough!

at 800 points I can get in about 5 units and 2 leaders with 7 CPs total. that sounds good to me.

Hi,
Francisco here ( one of the authors )…

9 would be the recommendation but it is just a guideline, as you become better at the game you'll risk less CPs and maybe more troops… also depends on your style of play.. straight battle plan ( fewer Cps ) or improvise and react ( more Cps )..
( 7 in your 800 pts example )

Thank you. VERY much for your kind comments..

and yes you can find plenty of support at

thewargamespot.com
wwwclashofspears.com

and on facebook on our group.. The Wargame Spot

we have a very active comminity as we work towards the new releases..

Thanks Francisco. I ordered a pdf copy of the rules from wargame vault kinda on a lark, and then liked the rules so much that I ordered a hard copy. Great job on the book. I'll hopefully be trying out the game for myself soon, but in the meantime I've watched every YouTube video I could find. 😀

I'll be using the rules to play dark ages so I'm looking forward to that supplement. 😀

Dark Ages is being worked on, we will continue updating the playtest lists.

I am in the middle of moving but once that is done I will be doing more video tutorials.. plus we will be releasing a dedicated history book for the Rise of Rome period by the italian author of the illustrations in our book.

We love that period and this book coming up has fantastic insights..

thanks again for the support..
Francisco
