Turns out this is really old news, but still, happy to see it – circa 2007 apparently, for the acquisition date. Looks like the USAF has access to a small number of Su-27 fighters (two), which we purchased from Ukraine. A pity they didn't buy a few more, just for grins, but with modern computers, flight sims, and aircraft engagement modeling, etc., that's probably all they needed. Would love to see these at an air show, or in flight some time. Anyone know where they are currently, or seen photos of them? link link |

Of course, such testing can be rather dangerous, sometimes. Looks like we lost a US pilot back in 2018 over Ukraine, flying with another Ukrainian pilot during a joint exercise. link Here's a couple of photos of the US Sukhoi Su-27UB: link link At 30% less than the cost of the F-15, it's a pity we didn't buy a squadron or two of them. |

Have to wonder what it's like trying to source all the parts needed to keep them flying, though. |

Ukraine made/makes a lot of them I suspect, and we have lots of craftsmen too, though I do get your point. Custom-made parts for anything specialized will be rather pricey. |
