Hello all,

I find myself in possession of some Woolly Mammoths, Sabertooth Cats and a bunch of Cavemen.

Any suggestions for rules to play with? I'm not sure if there is such a thing as 'hardcore' Caveman rules, but I'm just looking for something more beer and pretzel. I have 'Tusk'…. maybe something with a bit more complexity.

Not only suggestions, but if you are looking to get rid of, maybe we can talk…. PM me….

Thanks, and I look forward to any suggestions.

Dave

Lost Lands by 2 Hr Wargames. link

You can play as cavemen. Neanderthals, "monkey boys", lost world explorers, or even prehistoric animal.

This is a subject I have had rolling around in the back of my mind for many years. (Without much action).

But I did scan through the TMP guide to rules and found these:

Prehistoric Settlement

Tooth and Claw

Caveman Clash

Have played Tooth and Claw a lot and the Tribal
Paleolithic supplement several times.

Like 'em both.

Come on guys? Paleo Diet: Eat of be Eaten from Ganesha Games for the win! It's a great wee game with a bunch of scenarios & the most plausible animal behaviours I've seen in a rule set and it can be played solo, head-to-head or cooperatively. A campaign book and a pulp expansion are also available. And it's cheap.

Thanks for the addition:

Who can add this to the TMP rules page?

Does Palaeo Diet have rules for Man to Man combat?

colgar603 Jul 2020 8:19 a.m. PST

Yes, you can do man-to-man combat in Palaeo Diet. One of the scenarios in the campaign book even has table-controlled "others". However the rules are not really intended for complex hostilities and such combat is fairly simplistic.

If you're looking for a focus on warfare then I would suggest "Tribal", as mentioned above. But if you want a "beer and pretzels" hunting game then I think Palaeo Diet has a lot to recommend it…

Note: I own (and have played, on multiple occasions) Prehistoric Settlement, Adventures in the Lost Lands and Tooth & Claw. All have their merits, but each left me feeling that something was missing.

Thank you all.

Palaeo Diet: Eat or be Eaten it is. grin
