Howdy, Working on a mini-campaign in 11th Century Southern Italy and Sicily. Lots of great opportunity for skirmish games. Arabs, Byzantines, Lombards, and Normans all at odds in a relatively confined area: Campania, Calabria, Apulia, and Sicily (the boot and the ball). In fact that is the working name for the project, The Boot and the Ball. An early draft of the campaign map is shown below:
The mini-campaign will be intended for use with So Convenient for Hewing. Now available from lulu.com.

Just a suggestion, but you might want to add "wargames" or "wargaming" to your keywords on Lulu. That is what I search for on Lulu to see if there is anything new. |

Howdy, From the intro notes for the campaign (outlining in progress). The purpose of this mini-campaign is to provide a medium for Dark Age Skirmish Battles using the miniature rules So Convenient for Hewing. The game play represents the period from 1030 to 1100 AD in Southern Italy and Sicily. The factions in the game represent the Arabs, Byzantines, Lombards, and Normans. There may be multiple players within a faction. Use of a referee or game master is anticipated for campaign play. About the map: The game map is divided into provinces, and several provinces are grouped as areas. A listing of areas and associated provinces: Apulia: Gargano (poor), Foggia (poor), Bari, Melfi, Taranto, & Brindisi Calabria (poor): Reggio & Costenza Campania: Isernia, Capua, Benevento, Naples, & Salerno Sicily: Messina, Palermo, Catania, Tripani, Agrigento, & Syracuse Some provinces have cities or major cities within them. Each province has a wealth number determined at the beginning of the game, that varies from 2 to 5 (inclusive). Provinces designated as poor have a wealth number of 2 or 3. While provinces with cities have a wealth number of 4 or 5. The wealth number also indicates the number of troops/settlers which may be supported (i.e., supplied) in the province. Howdy, Continuing the outline of the mini-campaign game. Each game turn, players will roll a d6 to determine how many available actions they may perform: d6 roll . . . . . . . Result 1 . .. . . . . . . . 2 actions & draw event card 2-4 . . . . . . . . 3 actions 5-6 . . . . . . . . 4 actions A player may hold up to three event cards. The event card deck currently has 26 cards with 9 different events: 1 – Naval support 2 – Negotiations 3 – Mercenaries 4 – Tactical Advantage 5 – Coup de Main 6 – Caesar's Treasure 7 – Rebellion 8 – Resurgence 9 – Disease Players select the actions they will perform on a given game turn. Currently, actions consist of: 1 – Play an event card 2 – Harvest 3 – Bank 4 – Settlement 5 – Muster 6 – Influence 7 – Diplomacy 8 – Move 9 – Raid 10 – Attack/Siege 11 – Support 12 – Fortify 13 – Defend More to come … The miniatures rules So Convenient for Hewing are available from lulu.com. The mini-campaign is NOT a part of the rules. The mini-campaign is to provide a reason (an excuse-?) to play miniature battles. Ponder on, JAS
