It seems this 'disagreement' between TMP and TooFatLardies
has taken over the front hobby page.
I suggest that we get back to the hobby and perhaps create a new message board. TMP Business Issues or some such.
That way, those that really are interested can get the most current updates on Who said what.
I of course say Yes, table it for now.
I have a feeling this post won't last long.

Andoreth29 Jun 2020 6:44 a.m. PST

I see no reason why this thread should be deleted. Indeed I see it as a very reasonable way of getting rid of this irritating topic.

With TfL it was easy enough to be rid of it by unsubscribing from their site, but I spend far too long on TMP for that to be a viable option.

Old Peculiar29 Jun 2020 6:47 a.m. PST

It should be binned asap!

robert piepenbrink Supporting Member of TMP29 Jun 2020 6:56 a.m. PST

You know, life got a lot less stressful when I stifled and ignored Tango, and unchecked "TMP Talk" from my areas of interest. Let the people who find this sort of thing interesting pursue it--everyone needs a hobby, after all--but if this sort of thing isn't your hobby, you can shed most of it easily enough.

@d6

Not wanting to teach anyone how to suck eggs, but:

In parliamentary procedure, the verb <<to table>> has the opposite meaning in different countries:

* In the United States, to "table" usually means to postpone or suspend consideration of a pending motion.
* In the REST OF THE (English-speaking) WORLD, to "table" means to begin consideration (or reconsideration) of a proposal.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Table_(parliamentary_procedure)

Just sayin'

D6 Junkie29 Jun 2020 10:19 a.m. PST

My apologies. End it then.

Major B29 Jun 2020 10:26 a.m. PST

End this bizarre escalation, it will only hurt the hobby and your business. I go to TMP to enjoy my hobby and read about others who enjoy gaming with miniatures. I do not post very often. I do buy from others who sell on TMP and I try to let others know when service from a vendor is good or questionable.

THE END!

Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian29 Jun 2020 11:23 a.m. PST

Aren't we talking about 8 topics out of 100 on the homepage currently?

Some of which are about to scroll off the bottom, and none of which are from today?

You know, why don't you post some new topics about things you'd rather talk about? That will make the other stuff scroll off the bottom even faster.

Do you really think we need to have a poll about this? Won't that just add one more item to the homepage for you to be annoyed about? Then won't other people want their own polls on this subject, too? A poll about bullying, a poll about TMP staff being attacked, a poll about companies that allow toxic posts on their social media… it seems like a proposed escalation, guys.

whill429 Jun 2020 11:34 a.m. PST

I think we should have a poll. We should poll whether or not the TMP audience wants to see TMP vs the internet squabbles.

Personal logo Murphy Sponsoring Member of TMP29 Jun 2020 11:54 a.m. PST

Actually the posts and info should be archived off site, in case of site issues/crashes, etc…and all current information on site about it removed, so people won't keep beating a dead horse.

SquireBev29 Jun 2020 12:10 p.m. PST

Yes.

The sooner we can get back to people behaving like adults, the better.

The sooner we can get back to people behaving like adults, the better.

I don't want to get into a big discussion on this, but I will simply say that for TMP, this was about survival. Speak up or be 'cancelled'.

You can't talk about games on TMP if we're out of business.

Red Jacket Supporting Member of TMP29 Jun 2020 1:00 p.m. PST

Assuming that Bill is correct and I have no reason to question his conclusion that the issue is one of TMP's survival, I believe this topic should remain on the board for all to see.

The Tin Dictator29 Jun 2020 2:13 p.m. PST

Yes, keep it in some back room, with the doors closed.
And stop all the crossposting to so many boards.

I personally have absolutely no intention of contacting TFL or anyone else about anything related to this squabble. And I would prefer not to have to navigate around the subject on this site.

I come here because it's a hobby site. Or at least it used to be.

Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian29 Jun 2020 3:04 p.m. PST

And stop all the crossposting to so many boards.

I believe most of the topics are not crossposted at all, Tin Dictator.

The one about Peter Pig being pressured is on Hobby Industry as well as TMP Talk.

Or were you criticizing D6 Junkie?

The Tin Dictator29 Jun 2020 5:06 p.m. PST

Yes, this thread is crossposted to three different boards.
In addition to that, you have your rant pinned to the home page.

Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian29 Jun 2020 5:12 p.m. PST

Yes, this thread is crossposted to three different boards.

I would assume that is because:

1. he wants a poll (TMP Poll Suggestions boards)
2. it involves Too Fat Lardies (Hobby Industry board)
3. it involves TMP (TMP Talk board)

That seems pretty reasonable to me.

In addition to that, you have your rant pinned to the home page.

It's not really 'pinned'. Like any editorial message, it stays up for three days before it expires. Automatic.

I'm sorry that this offends you, but we are fighting for our existence as a company here. Three jobs at stake. 25+ years of hobby discussions and articles. TFL wants us to go away. We're toxic, he says.

Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian30 Jun 2020 11:41 a.m. PST

That seems pretty reasonable to me.

Upon further review, mea culpa. Seems I'm the one who crossposted to TMP Talk and Hobby Industry. However, as I said before, that does seem to be where it belongs.

Jcfrog30 Jun 2020 1:19 p.m. PST

Shelved. Get a whatsapp conversation drinking a beer, stop the " mine is bigger" game and work out for Historical games who really need both. Please.
And yes for a forum which does not sell its paerticipants like facebook, so has to earn from adverts and support it dies make sense that advertising under all forms be moeratly costing. Nothing in free, except for politicians.

Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian30 Jun 2020 3:29 p.m. PST

Jcfrog, I'm at a loss for what you think we should do. Seems if we fight back against being put out of business, it offends you. The jobs of the staff are at stake.

Not sure what can be "worked out" when they want to kill our website unless we give in to their demands. We're not trying to kill their company.

billclo30 Jun 2020 3:59 p.m. PST

Bill, there isn't much else you can do but fight. There are people out there who want to "cancel" everything they disagree with. Fight back or be deleted. Its come to that, and its only going to get worse (non-TMP related I'm talking about, without getting into politics) until enough people say "enough is enough".

You can't "compromise" with people like that; its like trying to negotiate with someone who has a knife to your throat and who says I'm going to kill you, and hoping he'll only castrate you instead. You fight back and win or die.

Who cares if those people are "offended" anyways? A lot of people seem to think that being "offended" is some kind of magic talisman, and when they wave it around, everyone is supposed to rush on over and take care of whatever "offended" the person. They need to get a life and realize that they just aren't that important, and they need to stop acting like entitled little punks, aka special snowflakes.

There aren't many forums that I frequent that last the test of time; the ones run as hobbies tend to fade away in a few years. Its only the ones run as businesses that tend to stick around and grow.

Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian30 Jun 2020 7:34 p.m. PST

I'm just struck by the double-standard.

TMP is accused of being toxic. (Despite our readers repeatedly saying, when polled, that they like the place, that in fact the environment has improved considerably over the past few years.)

And the company attacking us has allowed some of the most toxic people in the hobby to attack us, not professionally, but personally.

And yet the hobby seems complacent about what is really happening. Gamers just want to get back to gaming. Companies decide who to support based on friendships, not principles.

Totally agree ! Since I've been on TMP I've seen and been attacked myself in the past. Not only is this sort of thing is childish, etc. It's cowardice, etc.

The net it is like a phone call. You can't face your attacker(s) face to face. Hence they hide behind the cover of net[or phone lines]. I'm sure those types would be less "vocal" if standing in front of you.

And may require a trip to the dentist, etc., shortly after making those "vile" comments. evil grin

I'm an old fart so I'd have to hit'm with my cane ! wink

Bill boss

I am not offended. What you said makes sense. Your forum, your rules.

A lot of the mess comes from the Brits who unfortunately have moved away from those of my younger age. Look at their cities streets now. Far too many went into that fiction of things for free (as Maggie said paid by others.)

I did not read nor follow the details but best for you to tone down. Nowadays you cannot defend on internet against slander, mobs etc. You have to do the right things and ignore them.

The more this goes the worst for you. The internet fanatics are inconvertible. I did not fully understand the origins of the subject. It looks now like those Cosican vendetta whose origins from generations has been forgotten.

It is a pity as I like tfl and tmp.

Dukewilliam01 Jul 2020 10:02 a.m. PST

Just a quick note to express the thankfulness of all of us here at TMP for your support, whether expressed publicly, privately, or in the form of new advertisers and new Supporting Members.

Editor Gwen, in particular, has been heartened by your concern over the abuse she withstood.

Don't know if he is French, or just lives in France (either way, his username is a tad ironic at the least and slightly offensive at worst) but you'd think he'd got over 1815 by now!

An alternative simpler solution would be to stop creating new posts about it, then they won't appear on your news feed.

I didn't take it that way at all!

I understood it to be about Millennials' attitudes.

It seems this 'disagreement' between TMP and TooFatLardies
has taken over the front hobby page.

I count five topics, mostly from a week ago, mostly about to scroll off the bottom of the homepage.

Basha Felika04 Jul 2020 2:55 p.m. PST

wymers, had he written "a lot of the mess comes from the Millenials…", I'd probably have agreed with him, but he singled out ‘the Brits' and how our society has declined since Maggie was in charge of things 30+years ago.

Would be interested in how he thinks French society compares to the British one both then and now (assuming, of course, he does actually live there).
