I'm new gaming with Rommel and use 6mm miniatures and hexes. My question is how do others handle anti-tank formations? If anyone has made some then what stats and rules did you give them? In the basic army lists none are listed. I guess they're assumed to be worked into the infantry formations??

I'm interested in doing an Operation Herkules game using Rommel, ala 1977 Avalon Hill's Invasion of Malta. The scale is about the same. I'm not planning to copy the game's TO&E verbatim but it does give the axis forces AT units so I'm curious how to represent then on the tabletop.

Thanks
The Major

ATG are attached to Infantry units and gain the ability fight tanks.

Yes, generally there were AT guns in the Infantry Bn's, etc., TO&Es. Or attached from separate AT units.

My issue is that for the initial para drops the units are not going to have access to AT guns. Not at least until they capture an airfield.

Legion, thanks for the TO&E. Where did you get that from?

Van von Borries, the designer of Invasion of Malta, is revisiting the topic in Invasion: Malta. It uses the a development of the "Roads" system that debuted in Roads to Leningrad link and then Roads to Moscow link It may be the best system at this scale.

emckinney,

Thanks for the info. I'm really set on using the Rommel rules but that's great info nonetheless.

The new counters look great. I may still but the game anyway.

Mjr Stalwart,

In Rommel there is a modifier for "tank shock" for a unit that is infantry versus armor in open terrain. Use that until they get the AT guns if you like.

As above, just make all the infantry without AT guns vulnerable to tank shock.

Yep, that's what I do in my Rommel games.

Mjr Stalwart … I just found those online. But they are pretty accurate AFAIK. Being an old historical gamer and history buff. old fart

As far as concern about Inf/Paras vs. AFVs … Gator, Martin, and mgh have made some good suggestions. Which sounds generally accurate, etc.

Martin, Gator,

Great suggestions. I think they model the actual combat situations well and most importantly, they are simple. Which is in the spirit of the roles I believe.

They also cut sure on the unit count. If I can get this project if there grounds is like to stream line it for a convention so it'll have to play in 4 or 5 hours max.
