Just a brief note. It occurs to me that people often misunderstand what I mean when I say this. They assume I mean: If no one hits the Complaint Button, then no violation of forum rules occurred. That's not it at all. What I mean is: If no one hits the Complaint Button, we may not do anything about it, because we may not know about it. A common misconception is that, with three people working here full-time, we have time and manpower enough to scope out the forums 24/7. That's just not true! We may not read that topic. Maybe we skimmed the topic and missed whatever the problem is. Maybe we (usually me) made a comment but still missed whatever the potential problem is. So no, I am not saying that whatever happens is OK if nobody hits the old button. |

Thanks for the clarification on that point. |

Indeed, in Hospitals, we have a similar system, where any care worker can flag a 'Cause for Concern' – which is then assessed for validity, and acted on if required. |

Might be a good idea to have a few quick user reminders on the side bar that says: How to REPORT a user or post you feel is inappropriate or offensive. How to BLOCK (Stifle) a user you don't want to see anymore. Rules of Good Conduct etc. Cheers. |

Then you get people like me who hit the "Complaint Button" over some alt-right post clearly making a political points only to be told that "There is no violation of of the rules." The only time I can recall a complaint being upheld was when I was named personally in an attack. |

I don't know if a personal response is given when a complaint is made. I'd you are not a supporting member, you can't be sent a pm. I made a complaint a couple of days ago and the post I complained about has subsequently been edited. Was that a result of my complaint? I don't know. That's not particularly important of course so long as the issue appears to have been addressed. DBDD |

Then you get people like me who hit the "Complaint Button" over some alt-right post clearly making a political points only to be told that "There is no violation of of the rules." That just means the moderators disagreed with you about whether it violates forum rules. Since they deal with forum rules on a daily basis, perhaps they have a better understanding of what is or is not against the rules? I'd you are not a supporting member, you can't be sent a pm. Moderators can send PMs to Basic Members, but not to Locked accounts. Editor Gwen tries to send PMs or emails in cases of forum discipline, but sometimes she just doesn't have the time. |
