Ok I'm interested. Always looking for more Darkest Africa miniatures. Though the bar is pretty high as both the Foundry, North Star and Copplestone ranges are very good miniatures.

Wow, their fists are the size of their heads ! Why would a sculptor choose to do that?

Or is it just a distortion in the perspective.

No, those are huge hands – on terribly misshapen bodies, with tiny heads.

The askaris aren't so bad – except the hands.

I don't hate the natives

The Natives are the most interesting of the figures on display no makes Mangbetu that I know of. If you are going to start a new DA range then native peoples not already covered by the current ranges are the way to go imo.

Looks good. But, I'm having such a great relationship with Foundry right now, I would have a hard time breaking away from them.

Henry Martini26 Jun 2020 7:21 p.m. PST

The proportions are all over the place.

I don't understand why someone would waste sculpting and production resources poorly duplicating something that's already available in much higher quality, especially when there are so many potential DA subjects as yet unrealised in miniature.

Actually, although most of the of the Old Glory DA tribal packs are completely imaginary, one of them contains a reasonable representation of Mangbettu warriors.

Lost African Tribe no. 3, in fact. Even the shields are right.

I too am not too struck on the figures' proportions, particularly the Belgian officers, however I am really happy to see more casualty figures. My Darkest Africa games are more skirmishes than full on battles and soldiers need to know where their fallen comrades are so that they can rescue them.

They look good enough to me and they will make fine additions to my Dark Africa collection.

I'm just glad too see another company release new miniatures for Africa.

Errr…they're not that good are they?

Just shows what real talent Messrs Perry, Hicks, Copplestone have, doesn't it?

I'm getting too old to spend time trying to paint second-rate figures. harsh, I know, but sadly true.

Ditto to Chick, and most others.

I think I've worked it out now:

These figures are intended for the lesser painters amongst us who want Force Publique figures but can't bring themselves to defile Mr Copplestone's little marvels.
