My favorite painter of 1/72 Napoleonics has disappeared. His last posts to TMP and his blog were in July of 2019, and his account on TMP has missed email verification. Is he dead? On the lam? Fully employed? Tired of miniature gaming?

Wishing he were still posting inspirational photos of new Napoleonic units… frown

If he's switched to blogging somewhere else, I'd love to know where. He's one of the people I check in on periodically for motivation and good ideas.

Sorry, wish I knew.

I've dropped him an email.

Seconded!

I agree. I hope him to be OK and that he comes back soon for sharing his beautifull minis with us.

I also miss Mateus. He does a great job of 1/72 plastics.

No response yet to my email.

I just had a look at his blog thinking to leave him a message but there are dozens of comments linking to Indonesian poker sites.

Agreed. His beautiful painting is missed.

I miss Mateus too. Does anyone know how he is? I understand from his blog (last post July 2019) that he lives in Brazil, which like many countries has recently had something of a difficult time. I hope he is ok.

Mateus disappeared before Covid, so no worries there. He also disappeared from Benno's. I seem to remember him saying he had some difficulties that were taking him away from painting…
I totally agree as to his painting skills. He is brilliant.

Any recommendations of nice quality painters for 18mm Napoleonic figures? My original disappeared when he had a breakdown and I lost touch with his in laws in Thailand who did the actual work.

Now my current painter just increased his cost per figure $1.20 USD, too rich for me at $5.20 USD

Hello Fredloan.
Did you follow Mateus' blog?

Trockledockle05 Nov 2021 11:29 a.m. PST

I do miss his posts- lovely work. I think he mentioned that he had a problem- something like tennis elbow. Perhaps he has had to take a long term break.

Hopefully you are right!

My word, just followed the links, totally understand why you miss him, fantastic 1/72 Napoleonic painting. Hopefully he has just gone for a wonder and will be back soon!

Excellent and prolific, when most of us are one or the other.

Trockledockle22 Apr 2022 10:36 a.m. PST

He is back but not Napoleonics thus far.

Now that is great news.

Just found this topic here on TMP! Ha!

I'm sincerely moved by all the kind words of appreciation and concern shown here and elsewhere! I've always felt that the napoleonic enthusiasts stand out among the most urbane, courteous and kind individuals in the hobby community, and topics such as this reafirm that. Thank you all and rest assured all is well with me.

Up until recently, I had been away from the paint desk for a long while. I had to halt painting due to a tennis elbow issue a couple years ago, and I guess I just lost my paint mojo in that hiatus.

But as Trockledockle already mentioned above, I've started painting again, and recently wrote the first posts on the blog in two years (!) Boy, I've left the blog unnattended for so long I just realised it was cramming with spam comments, now I've changed the settings to require moderation before publishing new comments.

And for those missing the napoleonic posts, rest assured there will be new posts coming soon (I just don't know if I'll be as prolific as I used to, but time will tell!)

Glad to hear that and good luck with your arm.

Excellent news. Did you ever get around to painting the Wurttembergers?

Excellent news. Did you ever get around to painting the Wurttembergers?

Those are on my plans for the next months. I'm currently starting my prussian army, but I intend on simultaneously working on my german branch of the grand armeé (bavarians and wurttembergs, initially).

Mateus:

Welcome back. I missed about 6-9 months painting because of golfer's elbow in both arms. Painting & 35+ years as a software developer isn't good for elbows. I now wear elastic braces on each forearm and have very little if any pain while painting. Maybe something like that would be helpful.

Stay healthy,
Dale

Willkommen, Mateus! Good to see you back again.

I'm so relieved to find you alive and painting again, I'll even forgive you for posting about spacecraft instead of Napoleonics. grin

I'm very happy Mateus is back too, but I haven't reached the stage where I can be as forgiving as you Yellow Admiral!
