I'm not overly familiar with Mantic's Forge Father range, but have established that the Steel Warriors are multipart with separate heads. Bearing in mind that I have eschewed buying the "official" Warlord Sontarans, as they are the wrong scale, I'm considering using the Steel Warriors, with different heads, possibly hand sculpted. Thoughts, anyone?

Initial thought is the height but I've failed to Google a comparison picture to anything!

Found this comparison pic;

It's about halfway down. Seems to indicate that they are a head shorter than the old Imperial Guard, which would make them about right for the NuWho version, which are shorter than the original series.

Of course, the best proxies would be the 25mm Laserburn Imperials, but no-one seems to know what happened to the molds for those.

It's a shame that Heresy Miniatures don't sell Sharclons any more. They were great:

Yeah, I wish I'd picked some of these up at the time. That's where I'm kind of going with the Steel Warriors – they're *almost* there, just need the distinctive rounded helmets, which should be relatively easy (hah!) to sculpt. Certainly a cheaper option than either Black Tree or Warlord, but a bit more effort.

The helmets are separate on the Steel Warriors so sculpting a dome on them wouldn't be too hard… and if you get some Blue Stuff / oymaru, you can press-mould them with putty so they all look the same.

Thanks for the tip, Insomniac. I'll look into this and we shall see how I get on.
