…epic on Tuesday. "Gone With The Wind has been temporarily removed by HBO Max from its streaming platform after it was criticized for romanticizing slavery, amid a nationwide re-evaluation of cultural values. The 1939 Civil War epic, starring Clark Gable as Rhett Butler and Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O'Hara, is based on a novel written three years previously by Margaret Mitchell. It tells the story of a turbulent romance during the Civil War and Reconstruction period. Hattie McDaniel, who would've been 127 today, won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, becoming the first African American to win an Oscar…." Main page link What have we come to …

Hmmm, when will ALL the other Civil War movies be removed too, AND when do the book burnings start? |

From what I understand, ebooks can be removed from devices when they connect to the provider. I think Amazon did this a few years ago based on some copyright issue (could be remembering this incorrectly) and when you connected to Amazon it removed the book without user knowledge. |

That's why I never get an official ebook. What I buy or load is mine, no one to decide for me. Principle. Soon games with acw will be forbidden. Stars and bars on tables too. Always find a group ready to make a living from one indignation to another. If it works why stop? |

Hmmm, yes Gone with the Wind is clearly "problematic". Best to erase it from history. Good job HBO. |

I thought the intent of HBO was to "edit" the movie to put things into a more modern context. |

It's time to ban the movie "The Color Purple". "The Color Purple" is racist. "It is time to ban this horrible depiction of Black Men as wife beaters and incest driven rapists. Just like "Gone With the Wind" there is no place in today's enlightened society for such a racist film. "The Color Purple" should be banned from ALL future showings on Netflix, HBO, primeTV, or any other aftermarket outlet. The Pulitzer Prize awarded to author Alice Walker should be withdrawn. Oprah Winfrey and Whoopi Goldberg should make public apologies for participating in such a racist film. Danny Glover should start a reparations fund for all Black Men for the harm he has done to them." (for the few woke who don't get it, this was sarcasm) |

Here in the UK many school libraries have removed copies of Uncle Tom's Cabin because it contains the dreaded 'n-word' – apparently not realising it was written as an attack upon the institution of slavery. A statue of Baden-Powell may well be removed because he expressed 'homophobic' and 'racist' ideas and was at first a naive admirer of some of Hitler's ideas. But the Nazis banned the Boy Scout movement in Germany! If one looks back about a hundred years or so, one will find that very many people had views about race and sexuality that are not considered appropriate today, so it will be all too easy to call for the removal of their statues or other memorials. |

I'm waiting for the mob to ban `Zulu'… Also there is a statue of a chap called Washington in Trafalgar Square, will he be next as an unreformed slaveowner? |

Ban 'Zulu'? But the modern-day descendants of the Zulus love it. They have get-togethers with the bit of the British Army that descends from the 24th Foot. It's a sort of 'brave warriors mutual appreciation society' deal… |

Lets not forget that dreadful game that pits white vs black on a daily base: chess! I propose that from now no, both sides have to use identical grey pieces :-) |
arthur1815 | 12 Jun 2020 2:13 a.m. PST |
Puster, not grey pieces – people might imagine they were Confederates! Gone With the Wind is a novel, not a history book. It presents the ACW from the point of view of a rather thoughtless, selfish young woman who hardly emerges from it as an admirable character. I'm more worried that the politically correct literary police may attack George MacDonald Fraser's wonderful 'Flashman' series of books, which are written as if the autobiography of a racist, sexist, cowardly anti-hero and so apparently – to the unthinking – endorse many attitudes found repellent today… |

@USAF Pilot- You'll need to define what sarcasm, irony, and actually humor are if you want them to get your post. |

I don't thinks it's possible. The intolerant woke have no sense of humor. |
