Here is a paper I stumbled across that was written by a psychologist about war magic and berserkers. "Going Berserk: Battle Trance and Ecstatic Holy Warriors." Not my thing, but I thought I'd pass it on. link

Interesting. The author is all over the place for the first few pages, then focuses in on Viking ritual.
