…to Find Out "Inside every dog there's a hero waiting to be unleashed, or at least, that's what we'd like to believe about our canine companions. New research suggests dogs truly want to rescue us when we're in a bad situation, but they have to know how to help. From Lassie and The Littlest Hobo to Bolt and Paw Patrol, we have this idea in our heads that dogs want to rescue owners in distress, and that they have a natural predisposition to be altruistic. "It's a pervasive legend," Joshua Van Bourg, a grad student at Arizona State University and a co-author of the new study, said in a press release. "Simply observing dogs rescuing someone doesn't tell you much. The difficult challenge is figuring out why they do it."…" Main page link Amicalement Armand

My two Labradors years ago, knew, long before my wife did, that someone who didn't belong was in our house (I was away on business). They went crazy and when my wife finally opened the bedroom door, our bedroom was on the second floor, the two of them raced downstairs and followed the culprit outside where, fortunately for him, he had an accomplice waiting with the engine running. They sped away up the alley with my two large Labs in hot pursuit. They were just common house pets but I think they would not have hesitated to throw themselves on the culprit had they caught him. They were never trained, they just knew they had to act to protect their people. In addition to my wife our young daughter was home as well. |

Canines are truly amazing creatures. When my faith in fellow man falters, I always look to my dogs for inspiration of compassion and love. |

Whenever my faith in my fellow man falters I think "nobody has ever repeatedly bitten me, destroyed my furniture, shredded my garden or sh@ on my lawn". I would gladly shoot our family dog if given the chance. |

My wee dog, Muckart, has been informed of this exchange, Jeffers. He growled, "he'd better make sure he gets me with the first bullet, BigDug, and I can move real fast." |
