Are you opponents ever shocked when you pull off a fancy maneuver to achieve the objective?

What? How did you do that?

jhancock26 May 2020 9:51 a.m. PST

Nah, cause I only play solo games and usually cheat anyway! 🤪

Are you opponents ever shocked when you [unnecessary modifier delete] achieve the objective?

On the rare occasion it happens, yes.

That is the worst deepfake I have ever seen.

That's not a deepfake! That's my cat!

Not quite a "fancy maneuver" but my friends had been playing this strategic space board game, and everyone was doing the expand and grab resources and build bases to win strategy. I borrowed the rules to read between game nights and noticed that the commentary in the rules talked about building civilian projects (that gain you bonus victory points) as the strategy that the authors assumed everyone would be doing. So, next game I went all in on that route. Before 1/3 of the game was over, my closest opponent was doing the same and everyone else was lost bewildered when I won the game with a massive amount of victory points. And now, everyone plays the game the same way. It was just i that happened to read the commentary in the rules and find the way the game had been meant to be played by the designers.

When I pull off a slick maneuver, it leaves my opponent stunned. It only happens once every five years of so, after all.

I always plan amazingly slick maneuvers, and then my dice betray me at the critical moment and my troops either run off to do their own thing, or do nothing at all…

Usually I am the one that resembles that cat when being outmaneuvered by my opponent.

My older brother does this to me on occasion with a new game. And he doesn't even have any interest in military history but is able to analyze a game like it's a game of chess. Of course I'm the only one who has read the rules and explain everything. I think my attention to playing my side is distracted by having to manage the game for both of us.

Now, now, USAF no excuses!
