The two countries—which share the world's longest unmarked border—fought a full-fledged war in 1962 and have since engaged in several small skirmishes. Not since 1975 has a bullet been fired across their shared border. As a result, the theory that Sino-Indian clashes are flashes in the pan and unlikely to lead to more extensive fighting has become a widely held consensus. ""China is committed to safeguarding the security of its national territorial sovereignty, as well as safeguarding peace and stability in the China-India border areas," a Chinese foreign ministry statement said". From empirical observations of late, it seems the Chinese are committed to "safeguarding" their own territory, AND that of others they've taken as well, through military force, lies, and bluster, like in Tibet, the South China Sea, and other regions. |
