I've been playing and enjoying World of Warships. I found Cruel Seas and it looks great but is it any good, any thoughts.

It's a superb, fun and exciting game. Although the FAQ is necessary to play it best, the options available for each nation are vast. However, if you're coming from World of Warships you may prefer Victory at Sea which is coming out in August, as that focuses on larger ships like destroyers and battleships, where Cruel Seas is about torpedo boats and other small light vessels. I hope some of that makes sense.

It is okay, I have run multiple games and have a decent collection of boats for it. You will find a couple of Facebook groups dedicated to it with lots of extra ship data cards available along with several versions of house rules. I find it to be very much like the other games I have played from Warlord, "not too bad once you rewrite the rules."

We play it as is and have a lot of fun.

Think of it as dog fighting with boats. I have two Cargo / Tanker ships…they are the bombers.

I bought both the US and Japanese fleets, all I've put together and painted of the Japanese are their MTBs….which are pretty small and weak. I can't really comment on how they play against the US PT boats yet. But using the starter set, we've had fun times. thumbs up

*Edit* I forgot, we did add a house rule. Evidently in 1st Edition, torpedoes could hit Medium size boats, which the German S-Boats are. In 2nd Edition targets have to be Large or bigger.

We like the Medium sized rule. It keeps the Germans on their toes against the smaller British MTBs….. evil grin

HI

Yes it a good game but not really a good simulation.

Very useful thanks. In World of Warships I usually use destroyers so the MBT boats sounds very cool.

I am not terribly impressed by the game itself. Too high a movement rate for IGOUGO tactical fights imho. I only played once in an introductory scenario. I might give it another go as it has far more appeal to me most any other sort of WW2 naval game. I think I would prefer it with CA/CL's and double blind games for night battles.

Yes, I enjoy the game.
