So doesn't seem it's easy to find flags for some of those western regiments.
I haven't found flags for 6th Iowa or 46th Ohio.
A assume the same will happen if I look for other regiments in the same division.

Note that the 46th Ohio flag shown is post-Shiloh.

Even though the 46th's flag is post-Shiloh I think it would be pretty safe using it without the battle honors. The format of the stars seems to have been pretty common for the Ohio regiments. A good website for Ohio flags is:

Have a look here. These are beautiful 10mm, quick to order, and arrive by 1st class letter post.

But they don't have the flags I'm looking for, at least not most of them.

GMB makes all of the state flags. With a fine hand (paint brush or paint pen), you can write the numbers in.

Hello Gunfreak,

The following is what I could find in my notes on the early flags of the regiments in the 5th Division. I made a four page "Flag Field Guide" with images/notes on the various flags produced by the three depots (New York, Philadelphia, and Cincinnati) and the contractors that produced the flags both for the depots and for private purchase. I'll post those pages (once I get it figured out how to do that on TMP) and you can reference them in conjunction with this list.

First Brigade (McDowell)

6th Iowa
- Unknown National Color, but the 5th and 7th Iowa were each presented a National Color made by Hugh Wilkins of Louisville, Ky. so the 6th Iowa may also have been given the same pattern.
- Note that Wilkins flags came with a flag staff with a red painted spearhead finial.

46th Ohio
- Cincinnati Depot National Color with unit designation "46th REGT. O.V.I. U.S.A." in black letters in the fourth red stripe.
- Cincinnati Depot Regimental Color made by Longly & Bro.

40th Illinois
- NY Depot National Color, 34 stars in canton arranged in five rows 7-7-6-7-7. Unit designation "U.S. VOLUNTEERS 40th Ills Inft" in black letters in the fourth white stripe.
- Cincinnati Depot Regimental Color made by Longly & Bro.

Second Brigade (Stuart)

55th Illinois
- Philadelphia Depot National Color with no unit designation.
- NY Depot Regimental Color.

54th Ohio

- Regimental Color from Cincinnati contractor, either John Shiletto or H. G. Hamblin.

71st Ohio
- Unknown National Color.
- Unknown Regimental Color.

Third Brigade (Hildebrand)

53rd Ohio
- Unknown National Color.
- Unknown Regimental Color.

57th Ohio
- Philadelphia Depot National Color with no unit designation.
- unknown Regimental Color.

77th Ohio

- Philadelphia Depot Regimental Color made by Horstmann Bros.

Fourth Brigade (Buckland)

70th Ohio

72nd Ohio
- National Color made by Hugh Wilkins of Louisville, Ky. Light blue canton with silver stars arranged in 6 rows 5-6-6-6-6-5. No unit designation. Wilkins flags came with a flag staff with a red painted spearhead finial.
- Embroidered Regimental Color made by a Cincinnati contractor, either John Shiletto or H. G. Hamlin.

Thanks Ryan.
But still, nobody makes them?
And I can't make flags.
