At the top of the French unit cards is written something like this: "1/2 Smith". Does that mean Smith commands the 1st brigade of the 2nd division; or is it the 1st division's 2nd brigade? One of the British cards has 7/7 and another 10/6, which seems even more confusing. I know those unit designation have no effect in the rules, but I'm just curious. Having an Air Force background, I'm only slightly familiar with army organization structure.

1st Brigade, second division would be my guess.
