"…With the Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) firmly established and in service across NATO, further doctrinal and trend development came to the conclusion that APC's would likely meet enemy APC's on the battlefield, thoughts moved to how they would survive and defeat them.

Emerging thinking and conceptual development were given fresh impetus after the appearance of the Soviet BMP-1 during Victory Parades in 1967, entering service with the 120th Guards Rogachev Motor Rifle Division a year or so later.

Formal work on FV432 replacement started the same year…"

Interesting, a bunch of stuff in there I wasn't particularly aware of and some nice photos.

My understanding of the appearance of the BMP-1 caused more of a rude shock than the article implies.

We also used to practice on the firing range with our .50s. On plywood targets shaped in the outline of the BMP from the side and rear. Our M2.50 cal would chew'm up from those aspects.

But their DSHK could do the same to our M113s … frown
