I doubt the US or anyone really fears those small Chinese carriers. The jets they carry lack strike capability and their main combat role is probably fleet air defence. The ski jump method limits useful loads too so even future designs will struggle to get range or ordnance loads.

The one thing I suspect is causing fear is the Russian Status 6 "Poseidon" – an underwater nuclear powered stealthy high speed drone which delivers a 100 megaton cobalt bomb. It will cause not tsunamis but also poison everything for hundreds, if not thousands of miles.

They are apparently working on airborne version too which could stay airborne for years thanks to nuclear propulsion – the 9M730 Burevestnik NATO codename: SSC-X-9 Skyfall).

PLAN carriers #5 and #6 have both been cancelled.

China has some weapons systems that are cause for concern, but the carriers are for fleet air defence and sabre rattling.

They doubtless scare their near neighbours – but let's not get paranoid about it.

Or Military Industrial Complex videos overhyping adversary capabilities to drum up support for their bottom line.

Yea, as mentioned, I doubt much of the world is afraid of their carriers.

As mentioned, their aircraft can't take off with full loads, so range and ordnance is limited, except when flying over the SCS. Buddy-refueling reduces the small number of jets they have available by 50%, and, we're not even sure they have many carrier-qualified pilots.

Conducting landing ops in bad weather, and at night, far from land, is rather difficult.
