Is there a variant of The Sword and the Flame for the Spanish-American War? (I know there's a variant for the Moro Rebellion that immediately followed the war, but it understandably doesn't contain information for the Spanish Army.)

I wrote my own. Mainly, just plug in SAW troop types in the tables.

There is:
THE SWORD IN THE PHILLIPINES Mark Stevens' variant for fighting the rebellion in the Phillipine islands after the Spanish American War. Mark has used this set to run games at HISTORICONs past. In outline form, this presents just the tables & charts, you should know and have "The Sword and the Flame" to play this.

And you can buy a copy here:

DyeHard, The Sword in the Philippines is the variant to which I was referring in my original post. Unfortunately, it does not contain any information for the Spanish, just for the Philippine rebels.

VCarter, would you be willing to share your take on the stats?

No problem. What's your email?

The Silver Fox20 May 2020 7:23 p.m. PST

Vince, it's johncanales at maildrop.cc

Thanks!

Email sent.

DyeHard, I failed to mention that I appreciate the thoroughness of your reply. Even though I already have that set of rules, thanks for the clear explanation and thorough walk-through on how to obtain it.

Bill Hogan has been using TSATF to play SAW for years. He has made modifications for the Spanish.

coolyork23 May 2020 4:03 p.m. PST

I also use TSATF for Span-Am War and keep meaning to right up my changes / variant !

The Silver Fox23 May 2020 6:56 p.m. PST

Go for it, Coolyork! I'm sure others would love to see what you have done.

SgtGuinness24 May 2020 1:59 p.m. PST

I've played in both of Coolyork's and Hogan's SAW games and had huge fun each time.

Coolyork, please do share your stats brother.

PS – might the Sun Never Sets supplement contain data on the Spanish?

Cheers,
JB

JB, checking The Sun Never Sets is a great suggestion — it's a wonderful resource. Unfortunately, its focus is entirely on the British, so it doesn't have anything to add here. :(

SgtGuinness24 May 2020 6:17 p.m. PST

@The Silver Fox, I should've known. Thank you for that rapid response. Maybe Hogan or Coolyork will grace us with their amendments?
Cheers,
JB
