Good read. It's true that you just never know.

I'm 2nd generation Hungarian. I've painted military miniatures for almost 50 years. Out fishing on the Gulf with my retired father and his 2nd cousin in the mid 90's, my Dad said to him "Tell him about your time in the military." He was a bit hesitate, but said "I was a pilot." Surprised, I said "Wow, what did you fly?" He smiled and said "Bf-109's."

Good story about Chang's vet status. And now some
folks might realize why Mandarin speakers went to
V'nam. The PLAAF wasn't the only team playing on
that field.

Good story. I worked with a guy who got to talking to a man who had a an aircraft carrier model in his office. This guy told my coworker that he was in the navy. I forget how my coworker responded, but the man told my coworker that he didn't understand -- the model owner said he was in the IJN in WWII.

At my fathers funeral, I was working on a eulogy. Unbeknownst to me someone else was working up a poster of warships. I didn't see it till the procession into the church. I stopped for half a second, and my wife hissed, "What's wrong"?
"They are Russian ships, every one of them."
We resumed our pace and she asked, "How can you tell"?
He and I are the only ex military in the whole extended family. You just have to forgive them. They had good intentions.
