Squadron Strike: Traveller game played online. You can learn more about the virtual map here:

(No purchase necessary, we will make time to teach you to play!)

Mike Zebrowski, Mike Llaneza (the Traveller line editor), and Stephen Harris played.

The background had the Solomani coming to claim a planet that they'd gotten the Imperial Navy to uncover, only to find that the Aslan had claimed it before they'd arrived. The Aslan Afteasea-class CA faced off against a Normandy CA and a pair of Dingir DDs.

Afteasea-class Armored Cruisers

It started out as a gentlemanly exchange of Meson Gun shots at range 24, and when it became clear that the second Dingir destroyer had out-clevered itself, resulted in the first destroyer getting blown up as it crossed into weapons range of the Aslan CA, while the Normandy started firing meson guns, and the player was stunned at getting *actual average die rolls* for a change.

The Afteasea CA didn't realize it had given the Normandy a good shot with its secondary Particle Beam batteries, and took a modest mauling, and decided that light damage in return for destroying a DD was a decent trade, using its higher thrust to escape the fight when it got to the post-merge/separating while plinking with Meson Guns stage of the combat, and could cleanly separate.
