Too many humanoids, where are the real alien races?

I recall that in one of the Next Generation episodes we learned about a proto-humanoid race from whom all the familiar Trek races are ultimately descended… so it's to be expected that you you will see plenty of examples of head, two arms, and two legs.
A lot easier for costume and makeup specialists too!

Decades ago, I read a book about the creation of OST which claimed that the producers chose to use a lot of humanoid aliens (many of which were basically actors with minimal make up (like Spock) because the budget was so tight & that's there's an aside line in one episode that states 60% of the know alien races are humanoid.

I was always fond of Orion Slave girls …

I remember that chapter….

Anyway… the job of those guys are incredible good…
