Evening all, The speed painted Spanish line battalion I completed last week is based and up on my blog – I included some side-by-side comparison photos with the 'same' unit but painted in my "normal" painting style, for those who are interested link As always, comments and feedback welcome Regards J |

I feel the need…for speed! The speed painted look good to me. Much better than my average wargame standard. |

I thought your speed painting figures looked great!! In fact there is very little difference between the two. Well done!! |

Thanks for posting. What is your speed painting method, and how does it differ from your normal method? |

More definition of the differences would be helpful: how much faster; how were the two techniques different? Quality differences are hard to see, to be honest, so more information on how the two approaches differ, is really needed. Cheers! |

I preferred the look of the speed-painted figures, but then I have never liked the effects one gets from black undercoating. |

I really cannot see a lot of difference between the 2 units. However, I'm hoping that this Scale75 KS link will solve all of my lack of speed painting |

For me it looks like the only difference is black with two or grey underground with only one highlight. (Or blacklining with correction?) I think the difference will be noticeable, especially from across the table. The "normal" figures are more crisp, because they have more light-dark contrast. |

I prefer the look of the speed-painted figures. Very nice |

I really like the look of the speed painted figs – would love more details! |

They are both painted to a good standard (disregarding the bent muskets and bayonets) but I prefer the normal painted troops as the detail seems more crisp. Thanks for these posts. |

I agree with Hitman but Like Sgt Slag would like the additional information. |

To my eye the speed painted figures are brighter and less complex. This may be an advantage when seen at wargaming distances. I would keep speed painting everything and perhaps spending more time on generals or special figures. The difference seems to me less of quality than of stye. |

The black undercoat has a bit more contrast otherwise comparable |

I agree with GurKhan, I've never been a fan of the black line style. I've seen Austrians, really well painted, but due to the black around the straps, look like they they're in zebra skins. They should basically look white. These Spanish don't suffer from that; they all look great but I prefer the style of the "speed painted" ones too. Sadly for me, glacial painting still wouldn't get that . . . Cheers, John |

All Sorry, there was an earlier post covering the speed painting in more detail link All in all they took me about 8 hrs of solid painting, but due to having a baby to look after it was spread over 2 days. I had also trialled the technique on some skirmishers, in this post link Regards James |
