Today is the anniversary of the attack on the belgian fortress Eben Emael. It was the first gliderborne assault in World history.
Pictures from the fortress that is now a museum.

What a terrific series of photos. (I will forgive the fallschirmjager, shown with mascara and eyeliner.)

For those visiting who may not be too at such, there is an English language version near the end….and more to come!

Thanks

Well worth a visit, we did a tour in 95, the same day as a certain Jock Regiments Officers, one of the jnr members sporting s splendid black eye, a present from the CO for being late and still drunk!

Needless to say a fascinating place and walking around the top of the fort shows how difficult a task faced the Germans,

Tally Ho!

It's the scale of the fort.

Liam,

I believe one of the Osprey books noted that the Fallschirmjager unit that was tasked with taking Eban Emael was recruited exclusively from the cabarets of Berlin, thus explaining the make up.
