Great paint job on what I think as being one of the best detailed plastic sets.

Thanks, and I agree with the sentiment.
The artillery in particular is fantastic.
Some of the poses on the gunners are a little iffy.

Two guys with rammers?

AICUSV14 May 2020 4:37 p.m. PST

One guy has a sponge and the other has a powder scoop. There were actually two sponges (one wet, one dry) and a rammer in addition, on mussel loaders.

The kit carried by artillery is fascinating, but rarely shown correctly. Stress I have a very superficial knowledge of this.

The spongeman must be right of the gun (facing forward). One end of his thingamagig is a sponge, wetted, to mop out the gun barrel. Good idea, before you shove down a cotton bag of highly explosive propellant powder. The other end of his doofer is a wooden "tampon", to shove things down the barrel, designed to go bang. This can be a curved doofer for light and horse artillery so that the rammer's hands are not in line with the barrel….just in case!.

Then comes the real work. A corkscrew or even double helix, like DNA, to pull burning fragments out of the end of the barrel. Now the ladle shown has me foxed…well for field artillery anyway. Loose powder, for garrison guns maybe, but with a chap probably drawing on his pipe or the oppo lobbing sparking things at you….sounds dodgy…..

But I speak with my usual authority, despite complete ignorance…if only to stimerlate more diskussern….we need it!
