"Like many others I have been trying to assemble a useable Napoleonic collection for years, only realising, when it was too late, what a monumental task it is. Probably the biggest stumbling block was finding a set of rules that I liked well enough – we all know that feeling. Only relatively recently has that been resolved with the publication of General d'Armee. Finally settling on these rules has necessitated a certain amount of re-organising and re-basing, which has allowed me to put together the core of a collection and given me the renewed enthusiasm to continue the project…"

A nice collection . A couple of valid points the author makes.Naps collections do take time to grow .My own Austrian 28mm force has taken 3 years to grow and only now it's got to a usable size .The lock down has also helped me to increase my output as I am perhaps the original painting slug. The rules themselves ,well there are just so many of them and can be difficult settling on one set and tweeking a force to meet the requirements of those rules. One observation though is that many rules appear to have adopted standardised basing which helps if changing to a different set of rules. Another point I have picked up is the disadvantage of buying pre used models. If you need to expand the unit it can be difficult to copy the style of painting so I think patience and painting your own is the best way forward . |
