Paint is paint: media in a suspension. Formulas differ, but they're all paint, and they can all be used for miniatures. Some may require thinning, others are ready out of the pot/tube/can/whatever.

Miniatures painters have been using all kinds of products, in non-traditional, non-standard ways, since the beginning: polyurethane-stain -- aka, The Dip; Pledge Floor Gloss (previously known as Future Floor Polish) mixed with any type of acrylic paints, to create custom color washes -- aka, Magic Wash. Gamers use all types of paints: artist oil paints; craft paints; artist acrylic paints; hobby-specific paints; latex house paints (more for terrain pieces, typically); etc. Paint is paint. Some formulas work better on miniatures, than others. Cheers!
