Not the show – the spaceship miniatures game. Would you support its return?

Same rulebook, or new rules?

Rulebook only, or the minis? Which scale?

Same minis, or new minis?

jdpintex06 May 2020 11:33 a.m. PST

Minis for sure. Original scale (i.e., not the fleet scale). They could easily expand the ranges and even add races.

Rules are rules. Someone can write new ones or we'll use the old ones, or rule bash. We're gamers, we'll figure it out.

Are the guys who ported it to their Noble Armada system not around anymore? I was never crazy about those, and don't remember the old (AOG?) system.

I used to have a lot of the larger-scale minis. I Ebayed them about five years ago. In retrospect, I would prefer the smaller ships, even with (modern CAD-produced and) lighter resin/resin-like minis. The honkin' big metal ones were a HUGE pain.

Probably not. I loved the series, but in the Glorious Year 2020, there's already a thousand other gaming properties I'm having to ignore to get anything done on the few I support.

Starmada?

Garand06 May 2020 12:10 p.m. PST

I believe that was Mongoose Games. Mongoose lost the license…IIRC the IP holder wanted too much money. It is too bad because I really like the system.

Which "same rulebook"? AoG had Babylon 5 Wars and Fleet Action. Plus there was Mongoose's version. I liked AoG's Fleet Action rules.

Some of the minis are still available, but definitely would like to have the full range available.

Which Starmada? ;) I like Fleet Ops.

We could probably adapt Full Thrust to the Babylon 5 universe.

Oh -- someone has already done it:

The Fleet scale ships are great! I own fleets for every major race and several of the non-aligned ones. I owned 100 of the large scale ships that were painted. Once the fleet scale ones were released I sold the large ones.

Thanks

John

I'm the other way round. Fleet Scale all the way!!!!

Kevin C06 May 2020 8:01 p.m. PST

Yes. Someone needs to get on this.

I've got a few hundred painted Fleet scale as well.

The larger ships were not very good kits. I tried a few but soon got rid of them. They didn't go together without extra work to make them presentable. The detail wasn't all that great either.

williamb07 May 2020 10:38 a.m. PST

Most of the Babylon 5 Ships are available on shapeways in different scales. Anyone for a two foot long Omega Destroyer?

Brother Jim08 May 2020 5:43 p.m. PST

I prefer Fleet Scale myself.

Would just want a Victory class.

I already did a bunch of converting from the AoG Fleet Action game to Starmada A.E.

So I'm good on rules too.

Support it's return? People've been making content for B5Wars for years now. . .

Sargonarhes30 May 2020 3:22 a.m. PST

That's correct Garand, WB wanted too much money for the B5 license. They still have it yet don't know what to do with it. But now that AT&T is running WB and they're making fans happy with the Snyder cut for the Juctice League movie, maybe AT&T will look at B5 and say, "We got to do something with this. Disney killed Star Wars and CBS killed Star Trek, now is the time."

Meesa say George Lucas. Himsa kill Stars Warses, all by he lonesome.

Akalabeth01 Jun 2020 3:28 p.m. PST

Yeah, Jar Jar I thought that too until I saw Force Awakens, then I realized as bad as the prequel trilogy was- at least they added something new. Didn't just recycle scripts wholesale with no world building, backstory, or concrete plan for the trilogy.

Akalabeth01 Jun 2020 7:09 p.m. PST

Also, as an added note- I'd take Jar Jar over JJ's Greg Grunberg cronyism any day.

But yes Babylon 5 needs some new stuff. Need something to watch between seasons of The Expanse.
