Why… Why…

In an age where we have about 400 napoleonic ranges, and the most obscure nonsense in 15mm etc, is there still no Mexican Revolution range?

Peter pig? Old glory? Essex?

Crowdfund it?

Someone step up?

My guess is a general lack of interest, although interest does seem to be on the rise.

I'd be in. Viva Zapata! (Marlon Brando) Villa Rides (Robert Mitchum). I loved that stuff on the late movies as a kid.

I have long been fascinated with the Mexican Revolution. And been gaming it off and on for a number of years. Old Glory does a good 25/28 range for it. That's what I got.

But yes, definitely a niche period, not sure how much sales a company would get for 15mm range of that time period?

Sadly even if someone did make that range, I've already got a large collection and wouldn't buy another scale anymore. I suspect too that those few of us into this series of wars have probably already bought other ranges such as Old Glory and Outpost used to have a range too.

I'd like to see a Mexican Revolution line. The second biggest war in North America (after the ACW) is worthy of a line of figures.

oldjarhead25 Apr 2020 8:04 a.m. PST

I would be VERY interested

I think initial sales, for a full range, would be decent, but after that, hard to see it sustaining. Unless a company is committed to releasing a full range of figures all at once, I could see it withering. Too many companies have started ranges that have died. Was hoping for decent things from the 1790s Polish figures but now even the few that were offered are seemingly no longer available. It comes down to really good uniform and scenario books, and for me, a dedicated set of rules that most folks will enjoy. But even then, that is difficult to sustain. Look at the Liberators stuff…rules, supplement books, nice figures, fairly full range, had a discussion group, but pretty much crickets these days.

That being said, I would buy some figures, but not enough to really make a dent. I like the thought of skirmish gaming this war (American Intervention portion), so I would not invest much in figures.

If someone wanted to contact some quality sculptors and start pricing it out, and perhaps fund through a crowd funding method, I would throw in some dollars, or pesos.

I would go for this.

Here was an earlier attempt at this on TMP:

And a discussion about the period across scales:

Sign me up. Either that or 10mm.

Buckeye AKA Darryl25 Apr 2020 5:22 p.m. PST

Barring a 15mm direction, which seems unlikely, there is always the Shellhole Scenics range of 20mm, as well as Early War Miniatures of the same size (I would normally say scale, but do not feel like being trolled). I am not a fan of the latter simply because I do not want to assemble my figs once received, and while the EWM like good, fiddling with separate heads and weapons is not my pint of beer.

Americans could be supplemented with Tumbling Dice.

But, I would prefer 15mm…my arid terrain is nearly all in that scale…er, size. :)

Maha Bandula25 Apr 2020 8:07 p.m. PST

Move up a scale, I say! In 20mm you have the choice of three manufacturers, namely Early War Miniatures, Shell Hole Scenics, and Raventhorpe.

tabletopwargamer26 Apr 2020 2:27 a.m. PST

Problem is shell hole scenics are not looking good as the owner is ill

tabletopwargamer26 Apr 2020 2:28 a.m. PST

Blue moon? Old glory aren't they?

Russ runs them doesn't he?

Surely more interest than old glory teddy bears or whatever it was?

tabletopwargamer26 Apr 2020 2:34 a.m. PST

I'd love to see 10mm but only pendraken would be a starter, and I can't see Leon going for it!

tabletopwargamer26 Apr 2020 2:35 a.m. PST

20mm is big, I'd love to see a small scale range for larger games

Basha Felika26 Apr 2020 10:32 a.m. PST

Martin at Peter Pig has recently shown interest in producing a 15mm range for this – maybe some emails from interested gamers would encourage him to make it a reality.

Any chance this thread could be cross-posted to a more mainstream board so it's seen by a wider audience? I would have missed it completely (didn't know this board existed till now) had a not seen a link to it on a FB page.

The boss man will have to be the one to change where it is posted. Needs to be added to the Mexican Wars forum for certain.

Hello gents
How about this?

If you are all happy to wait until August 2020 I can start producing new packs as from 1st August. i.e 1st of August will see first 3 packs etc…
15mm size. Probably won't mix well with the 18/20mm figure size. Government and rebel forces forts. Then Americans.
No need to do a kickstarter. I trust you to buy some.

E mail me at peterpig@btinternet.com with your thoughts?

The delay is due to present commitments.

thanks

martin at Peter Pig

Buckeye AKA Darryl27 Apr 2020 2:51 a.m. PST

Martin – I would be in for buying figs. As mentioned, for this I would lean towards smaller skirmish level games, and would mostly be leaning towards the American Punitive portion, but I am in!

Basha Felika27 Apr 2020 3:15 a.m. PST

Martin, that's great news – I was already looking at your Old West and other ranges for suitable figures, but this is even better.

August/September sounds good to me – currently off work till ‘normality' returns so I'll need to start saving now to give the project the right support.

May I suggest that you also post this good news to a more mainstream board or two for maximum pre-launch publicity?

OK chaps
God willing this is a "go".

oldjarhead27 Apr 2020 7:40 a.m. PST

Really looking forward to this range

I would also be a purchaser of either 10 or 15mm figures for the Mexican Revolution. Have heaps of Peter Pig and love their sculpting style so that would be fantastic.
