Do people feel certain drinks are most appropriate, and do they follow this practice, for each period? For example, wine and port for Napoleonics. Whiskey and Gin for the Old West. Cigarettes if gaming WW2. |

Whisky for the Jacobites in 1715, 1745 and for Scots troops everywhere, whiskey for the fighting Irish (perpetually and internationally, as well as internally), and sour American imitations until ye first encounter the real Uisge Beatha. Anyone wanna fight about it? Eh? Who you lookin' at? |

How could y'all miss 'moonshine' for CSA in the ACW !?!? And 'homebrew' for Yankees from New England, 'stumphole' for the Midwesterners (same as 'moonshine,' but a bit rougher in the production process) and 'forty- rod' for Westerners. This latter was a concoction of various items, including coal oil, wood alcohol, red pepper, snake heads and similar things, so-called because it could kill at a distance of 40-rods. Pennsylvania, NJ and Maryland troops contented themselves with either apple cider (processed to increase the alcohol content) or a more potent 'home brew'. |

Gin for RN wardrooms for Colonial to Modern. Rum strictly for Ratings, replaced by Beer during a Labour austerity government. Wilson I think and subject of a very amusing Giles cartoon. |

We do occasionally have special drinks & food for some unique games. Generally though we drink craft beer, wine, rye or rum as the spirits move us without respect to the game being played. |

There's a naughty doggerel for WWII naval in the Mediterranean. The French, they like their wine. The British, they drink rum. The Americans are partial to whiskey, The Italians mostly stick to port. |

Nyet, comrade. Vodka for the Soviets/Russians. Rum for any period of British Royal Naval gaming, through the Cold War. Tea, for the Ultra-Modern period, since I hear the rum rations have been dropped after the Cold War's end. Whiskey for 'Mericans. Bier (beer) or wine for the Medieval period, depending upon sides. Wine for the Romans, I suspect. |

@Kropotkin303 Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster when doing Sci-Fi perhaps but only if you have your towel with you. Gotta second this one, we need a good long post discussing the alleged sanity or Douglas Adams and some of his more pithy quotes re…. "In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as bad move." and…a fav of mine "A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools." That last one kinda smacks of the ole Dunning Kruger Effect dontcha think? |

Russians didn't always drink vodka. Now in the early days, they had, or made, KVASS! (quick-brewed toasted bread and sugar and lemon beer-like beverage. Actually not too bad!) |

"Kvass; black, thick, and it makes you drunk" – Russia "Never Whisky without water; and never water without Whisky" – Scotland ("The Wine, the Wine, the lov'ly lov'ly Wine, Costs ye hauf the money, gets ye drunk in hauf the time" -Glasgow) |

New Holland Dragon's Milk (American Imperial Style Stout, 11% ABV) for all theaters of war unless yer not into beer then it must be Makers Mark bourbon… unless yer a Yank in Canada then it should be Alberta Rye Dark Batch… oh and in Norway, then it has to be Aquaveit… but if you really think Europe is the center of the universe then your bier must be Paulaner Salvator Doppel Bock! Man, am I thirsty. |

My games are set in the past but I drink in the present: Spaten Premium Lager is the house beer but occasionally a craft IPA such as a Stone, Deschutes or Harpoon when I can find it. There is also a nice local IPA from Karbach named Hopadillo. |
