…Tank Shaped Like BB-8.

"Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker already had so much going on, but our exclusive look at some of the concept art behind making it reveals the film could've had even more, including something truly delightful. Three words, my friends: BB-8. Battle. Tank.

This wonderful reveal is part of io9's exclusive look inside Phil Szostak's The Art of The Rise of Skywalker, the latest Star Wars art book from the team at Abrams. Gathering insight from the artists and crew who brought the final chapter of the Skywalker Saga to life last year, the book is also of course, packed with never-before-seen art that depicts early ideas for the worlds, people, and events we saw explode onto screens. But as well as giving us early looks at what we did get in the final movie, it's also got lots of fascinating insight into what could've been too…"

I'm glad they didn't. I'm not a fan of BB-8

The concept seems odd to me – that seems like a very resource-unfriendly way to build a tank (i.e. you could probably build 4 regular or hover or walker or whatever tanks for one of those)

Picture this….a near miss from an Ion gun or electrical disturbance of any type. Now picture this BB-8's head flying off into space. Now picture a similar result on a tank. Yeah, some people moan about the realistic uses for an AT-AT……but a tank with a non-attached turret, would, I think be far worse.

"Explode onto screens?" What movie did this person see? "Rise of Skywalker" produces a mild pop--sort of like stepping on bubble wrap. I'll grant you a giant BB-8 makes as much sense as those imitation elephants in Empire Strikes Back or the underscale Battletech machines in Return of the Jedi, but that is neither a compliment nor an endorsement. Space combat in a Star Wars movie was impressive but unimaginative. Ground combat seldom tried to make sense.

I get motion sick just looking at that thing.

Shock absorbers? Who needs 'em?
