"A Chinese government survey ship is tagging an exploration vessel operated by Malaysia's state oil company Petronas in disputed waters in the South China Sea, three regional security sources said on Friday.

China's Haiyang Dizhi 8 entered waters near Malaysia on Thursday, according to ship tracking website Marine Traffic.

On Friday, it was close to the Petronas-operated West Capella, according to the security sources, who did not want to be identified because they were not authorised to talk to the media. One of the sources said a Vietnamese vessel was also tagging the West Capella…"

Hmmm, things could get "interesting".

Imagine the audacity of the Malaysians thinking they can actually have a survey ship, and use it to run a survey in their own waters.

The Vietnamese vessel being there should just add to this as well.

Thanks for sharing. I wasn't aware of this, since there is virtually no new news on the TV of late, just endless prattling.

I need some new Asian vessels in 1/600th – 1/1200th, or so, I suspect, especially innocent civilian ones, "coast guard" vessels, and a few fishing boats.

Sadly, unless a major military power would back the smaller regional states in the area, China will do what it wants. No one is looking to confront the Chinese in a military show down.
