I am about to take the plunge into Pico 3mm WWII. I would like to base one model per base, so I am thinking either 20mm x 20mm base or a 15mm x 15mm base. My question is this… Can I base the larger late war AFVs on a 15mm x 15mm base? Thank you in advance to all who reply! |

Well, at 1/600 a 15mm base is 9x9 meters. A King Tiger is just over 10 meters with the gun…. |

I have enough problems with 6mm painting and basing. Just can't see (literally) going to 2mm. I have over 400 buildings in 6mm. |

I love 3mm – have a lot of cold war to ultra-modern stuff that looks awesome en masse. |

I am using 60 x 45 mm and base by platoon (that I can call companies if needed):

I saw a 3mm Bruce Weigle game at Cold Wars. Too small a scale for my liking. I think the above pictures prove my point. Without the print identifying the units I don't think one can tell what they are from a normal gaming distance. The terrain and overall effect of Weigle's game looked great though. |

What I like about 6mm is that you still have individual vehicles so knocked out vehicles and cotton balls can show the battle field as forces are and were engaged. 3mm is a little too small to mount individually. I now have the landing craft, fortifications and felt mats to do a beach invasion. Now if I can get around to painting the infantry!!! |

I like your bases, especially the WWII Germans ones with the less obtrusive unit details and camo background. The Israeli ones with the flags look very nice too. |

Love to see more information on how you did those bases. |

This is a Very helpful post guys. In a real limbo w/ the scale issue. *Repaint, your pics of the M51's (Isherman's) give me something 'realistic' to look at as for basing. Also like to know what rules your using? My WIP idea: 3 (3mm) or 2 (6mm) tanks per 40mm sqr. base and play as companies. And you cant beat the price compared to (1/285) micro armor. Marcus makes a good point, at 3mm "Just how close do you need to get to really see what you've got on the table?" As '60's' just around the corner.. something to think about. |

Several years ago, I bought some 3mm pico armour and started basing individually, on UK pennies, (the copper plated steel ones would adhere to magnetic strip). Only got a Squadron of 8th Army Lees finished… but with texturing and very small bits of foam scrub… looked quite good! BUT… eyes started to deteriorate with age… so have abandoned both 3mm and 6mm for 1/200 or 10mm. |

Heedless, I can appreciate your situation. Doing some 'rough' math, a 1/600 M51 Sherman, measures apprx.(.382) <4/10in. L X 2/10 W. I have to face the fact, at this stage, not sure I could clearly see what "It" is at more than a ft. away. |

Sigh. Also, you get the 'fingers' issue post 50. they just don't hold on to things like cigarettes, never mind TINY models. In 3mm or 6mm, a vehicle or turret can vanish forever, prior to being Fixed onto something. As for drilling and fixing a pico armour Commander 'bit of pin and Blob Head'… Ha! They are very cheap, though… and certainly can do the biz if in very restricted living space. Suppose basing depends on rules… for myself, I would like armour to act individually… eg advance along a road… rather than a 'unit' base… each to their own. |

Tell me about it. 5 yrs ago I dropped a drive wheel of a 15mm – 1/100 Sherman. If I couldnt find that, no way I'd ever find a 3mm tank. Repaints photos are great, but I can only wonder how much 'zoom' did you need to get that result. |

I am a 6mm guy and have tons of 6mm vehicles and infantry plus buildings and other terrain items. I do love the look of Repaint's 3mm minis and the labels are very well done. They look great. |

6mm – 285 scale is pretty cool. I had' many yrs ago. My biggest issue, the barrels. Micro armor barrels were almost always 'wrapped' around the tanks turret. Capt. do you run your 6mm armor as units (1 = pla) or 1 – 1. Just curious. Regarding 3mm, Little Wars TV has a pretty cool 3mm game video. Its a WW 2 scenario and less than 10 min. YouTube link |

Hi Part time gamer! For WWII my rules are Mein Panzer which is 1 to 1 for tanks and vehicles and for infantry each stand equals a squad or a team for the smaller sized units. For my Modern Games, I have decided to go with Fistful of TOWs 3 which is 1 stand = a platoon or in some cases a half company. I may eventually paint some WWII for this rules set as well. |

Thanks Captain I have limited armor gaming experience but enjoyed each one. LWTV ran "Berlin". The Soviet push into the city, using a version of FoT's as well. Just FYI to WW 2 buffs, theres a great, though brief interview with Col. David Glantz at the beginning of the game video as well. YouTube link |
