Is the chair you primarily use for hobby-related painting comfortable for sitting in?

Not so much now that it is getting older (like me grin ). I need to get a new one but that will have to wait right now.

I got myself a nice leather office chair (big/tall version) from Staples. Best painting chair ever (plus I have these in my office as well….)

I sit on my old, almost worn out couch to paint, but it is quite comfy.

I stand.

Fitzovich Supporting Member of TMP31 Mar 2020 12:39 p.m. PST

I just use a stool to paint and work on figs. That said my sessions are usually rather short.

I have a chair that I only use when painting at my painting table.

Leather office chair.

I have an ordinary (folding) chair, but an office cushion (no idea which brand), that makes a huge difference in comfort. Mine has removable cover that can be washed

I have an office desk chair that I use, fairly comfortable.

I tend to stand while painting and sit and watch tv while cleaning/prepping figures

I have two places where I paint – one with an old folding chair and one with a very comfortable ex office chair

When painting on my deck, I sit on a folding wooden chair from IKEA. It's pretty comfortable. It has a cushion. I put a plastic bag from the dry cleaner on the seat and legs to protect it from paint, although it could itself use either a painting or refinishing. That might be a good project for a stay-at-home-order summer! (4 chairs and 2 tables, actually.)

When painting indoors, I just use one of the dining table chairs. It's cushioned and comfortable. I cover the seat and legs with a plastic bag from the dry cleaner.

I use a wooden dining room chair. I generally paint for 30 to 60 minutes a session, so it is fine for that.

Syrinx031 Mar 2020 5:56 p.m. PST

I sit cross-legged on the floor.

If I did that I wouldn't be able to get up… grin

My older office chair is my painting chair.

KSmyth31 Mar 2020 9:39 p.m. PST

I have a comfortable swivel chair and work at a sizable craft desk. Somehow I still manage to leave myself about ten square inches of work space.

CeruLucifus31 Mar 2020 9:47 p.m. PST

No. Like Fitzovich my sessions are short.

Striker31 Mar 2020 10:39 p.m. PST

Yes. My wife got me a nice office chair years ago and it's still going. Best gift ever!

I have a director's chair that I pad with an old blanket. Been using it for 30 years, very happy with the comfort and arm rests.

Gad, 30 years? Yes, getting older I guess.

Been meaning to get a new chair for a while. I have one of those adjustable height office chairs but it's so old it loses height during painting. It's not a sudden drop but on a long painting session you go from perfect height for the painting table to "just a minute how did I get down here" as is slowly slides downwards.

My old chair does that occasionally when I initially sit down in it. grin

My 1998 Herman Thomas desk chair hydraulic piston failed the same way Prince ROTR. It was fairly easy to replace once I finally found a source for the part.

My painting chair is from 1975 and was my dad's originally. Fairly impervious to use or time so far.

coopman02 Apr 2020 3:37 p.m. PST

I'm convinced that you can't get a decent chair for < $200. USD

The Last Conformist05 Apr 2020 1:23 a.m. PST

I've got an IKEA office chair. It's shared with the home office which occupies the other half of my L-shaped desk from the painting station.

And I don't believe the guy above that said that he paints standing up. Come On, Man!
