Just a few thoughts on the current crisis and the suspension of gaming here at Yarkshire Gamer.

Stay safe everyone, enjoy that extended painting time.

Honestly? I think covid-19 and other such pandemics are here to stay and its effects on the hobby as a whole will be far-reaching indeed.

There are a couple of alleys in San Francisco's Chinatown where in the middle of the day you can the slap-slap of mah jong tiles being placed. I would often walk down those alleys on my lunch break when working in the city. I'm sure they're silent now.

That's what I thought of when I read the topic's title.

Now don't get me wrong this is a small thing in the grand scheme but today is the first day when a scheduled game day has been cancelled here at Yarkshire Gamer.

That was my Wednesday night: first game cancellation.

Know what you mean, Oberlindes. There was a bunch older even than me playing a dice game every Sunday evening at the local Arby's. Tricky to do in the drive-thru lane maintaining "social distance." But one of our aristos assures me she can still live-stream ballet, so there's no real problem.

But we get a new disease--SARS, MERS, Swine Flu--about every ten or fifteen years, and a sharp stock market fall at more or less the same interval. Minimal long-term effect on the hobby, I think Augustus--so long as our masters don't abuse the precedents they're setting.

Hang in there guys. It's going to get better.

I know what you mean. Second canceled week for our gaming group. We managed a glass of wine over a remote chat with a few members this week but no gaming.

Prior to this some subset of the group have met every week with the exception of a snowstorms, weddings or funerals. We have never gone two weeks without meeting since the late 70's. About half the current group are first responders or essential services. So far they have all remained healthy. Hopefully that continues.

Have you tried solo – or just not your thing?

yarkshire gamer31 Mar 2020 3:31 a.m. PST

Cheers for you thoughts everyone,

Green Tiger – not a fan of solo gaming, it's more the social side of it that I miss.

My lads home from Uni so it looks like m long dormant Blakes 7 project may get an outing.
