I would like to know if the use of those captured tanks were only for the photo … or were there complete units of them that fought against the Russians…

Quite a few did from what I've read. During Kursk, the SS Das Reich division fielded a company of them. Understand that they when the Germans recaptured Kharkov in March, they found a lot of them in the factory, and decided to sue them.

They should have done the Kelly's Heroes conversion. Would've made recognition much easier…

The light color of the one in the top 2 photos makes me guess that it had been painted over in German dark yellow primer. The one in the bottom photo has obviously had white wash or a thin brushing of white paint applied. The other one, with the huge crosses, was probably left in Russian green or possibly repainted panzer gray.

So someone still does not know the Germans used 1000's of 'captured' tanks? That the invasion of Russia would not have been possible without captured French transport and Czech tanks? That even captured BEF tanks were used in Russia and that Shermans were used in NWE?

The Germans had a predilection for using captured AFVs, etc. by simply painting iron crosses on them. Or even repurposing or converting an AFV to suit their needs. E.g. the 21st Panzer at Normandy had a number of converted French AFVs.

And yes, I've seen photos and read articles about former UK and French AFVs in German service being used in the East. Looked like stock with no conversion. Only iron crosses added …

They didn't have a predilection. That's the wrong word entirely. What they did have was a pressing need to use captured equipment because they didn't have enough of their own product.

They didn't have a predilection
That was hyperbole … I should have put it in " " …

Regardless, they did it often …
