Did you find that working with pliable, metal masts used on the larger models any more difficult than rigging the plastic masts used on frigates and smaller ships? |

@Big Red: Yes, the metal masts are too soft, which is a shame because it is a fantastic model. I'm looking at the possibility of using steel rods to replace some, if not all, of the pieces of the masts on HMS Victory. To everyone… thanks for the awesome comments! |

Having said that, I took a look at my bits box and found that of all the stuff that I had, only Foundry Masai spears were harder than the metal used for the masts in the box. For HMS Victory, I will probably redo the upper two thirds of the masts with wire. I like the lower third, but since it needs more strength where it attaches to the deck, I will probably cut and pin them. Overall the L'Orient is a great model. It does take some patience rigging the ship, but it is doable. |
