I'm thinking that I want some nice mats that show a colorful outer space, catch some of the grandeur [and perhaps free-fall terror!] of the vastness of space.

Looking at a variety of mat sizes / object scales.

At the moment, I'm thinking that I'd like to protect it with a clear vinyl table cloth [open for suggestions on getting that in the USA, btw] upon which I would put dots to outline hexes. I'd rather not have the distraction of full hex lines to mar the lovely mat.

Anyone have thoughts on this?

Thanks in advance, appreciate help!

Size? NASA has images you can download and take to a POD.

I found several different ones on Amazon that were listed as photo backdrops, table cloths, drapes, etc. less expensive than wargame mats. Also Joann fabrics. The blueish one is from Joann the one with the pink ships is a photo backdrop from Amazon.

Sparkle Felt. Check your fabric stores. I have a couple sheets (6' per side). Basically black felt with glitter embedded.

Black glitter felt is what I use as well. Looks great, and readily available (check Hobby Lobby or Joann's, or a similar fabric store— and don't forget to look for coupons, as they often offer 40-50% off anything you purchase!)

I have bought a bunch of different styles from Dresslily.

They go in and out of stock, but are cheap and work well on the table.
