The idea has been in my mind for awhile to make a river crossing scenario game and originally was going to ask for opinions but now found myself with nothing to do somight as well just go for it.
Yorck's has his corp (4 divisions)plus almost another division of extra units and must try to get across the river by 1 bridge and a small squadron of boats to get infantry and maybe a light battery across elsewhere. To stop him the Russians have just 1 corp,Baggovu' with 2 divisions the 4th and 17th, their corp cavalry regiment of hussars and 3 brigadesof Cossacks to scout the maze down river. |

Forgot, Yorck is coming from the right and while my game is called River Crossing it should be instead Operation 19 |

Nice looking setup. I'd start my attack by carpet bombing everything on the left side of the river. |

Oh forgot if the names are not familiar We are in 1813, but the Prussians plan is a massive artillery bombardment and rush the bridge |

By march and counter-march, force your opponent from concentrating at your chosen point, then cross by surprise. |

Destroy the bridge so that the enemy thinks that you're retreating. He will naturally pursue, which will requirement procurement of boats and the building of several temporary bridges. Let the enemy follow you into an ambush on your side of the river and destroy him in detail. Then take his boats and bridges and advance. |

The Prussians already have acquired the civilian boats knowing they had to cross somehow and have brought them up with the army. |

I agree with USAFPilot. Carpet bombing should do the trick. |

Typical USAF response. Why do they always want to take it out on the carpet? H |

After two hours
For all the weight of metal the Prussians are throwing across the river, they haven't eliminated even half the Russians artillery ( did I mention at Cold Wars my die rolling skills are bad?)
But the tail of the column held up as started to scout the other side with some Tyrolian jagers and engineers are working to make ease crossing easier. |

At the end of turn 5 East Prussian Gren were first across the river but moving up took casualties and couldn't stay. But the Prussians artillery finally has cleared the immediate crossing point and now other grenadier battalions are gaining a foothold.
Meanwhile down river starting to form troops up to hold a area if nned be. There are Cossacks roaming the far side but being Cossacks a farm has picked some of their units off for foraging.

All but end of round 9 and the Prussians have cleared a good jump off area of the opposite side of the river
Gen Steinmetz's grenadier battalions pushed their way building by building with help of the reserve artillery
LG Zakhar Olsufiev III is still holding the church with the 3rd battalion Ryazan and just defeated 2 battalions of the 1st Reserve IR but will not stand much longer with Gen Mecklenburg starting to get his numbers across Down river the extra troops division are getting their first 3pdr artillery piece across after getting a few battalions of infantry. Played with the solo idea having the Cossacks rolled with direction 2 directions every turn, 1 Tartar Cossack got to the river further downstream but it was getting comically that a few other Cossacks just kept wandering back to the farm, guess the looting was to much of a attraction to pass up. |
