If only I didn't dislike Bernadotte so much…. Seriously, although I bought the three bags of Marshals &c. made by Old Glory 15s, and the "Bernadotte" figure is a good one, it was demoted to a mere General de Division. At least I can use one or two spare Hussars for an example of these Guides. There's an old book on "Napoleon's Marshals", I think by Brigadier Peter Young, and as I recall it's got rather simplified pictures of some of their Guides' uniforms as well as of the Marshals themselves. Can't recall if all of them are included. Thanks again for this more comprehensive information. |

I don't have the Brigadier Young book either. B. also not in my sphere of interest (like Murat). Wondering- Soult gets mention in Spain for having 'uniform' ADC's or Guides (escort) in a yellow frac or surtout- what about earlier (1805). I don't count him as vain enough to actually have formed a flashy escort like several of his compatriots in the Marshalate. thanks d |

Didn't he have ideas about becoming King of Spain until Napoleon installed another relative? I don't know anything specific about Soult's staff and whether he had any interest in uniforms; Murat's the lad for that. I'll look forward to any information myself. Someone on TMP is sure to know. There was an ADC whose very long name includes "Hyacinth" (no, seriously), and he did wear a Habit Long in yellow, perhaps with blue facings, blue breeches and a comparatively restrained shako. I've got the details written down along with an appropriate 15mm Chasseur a Cheval figure, but haven't a clue where it's stored. Good Luck. |

Try historical-miniatures-collection.blogspot.co.uk. There's a vignette in the Napoleonic section of this site, ADC in a plain uniform standing beside another mounted figure, whom I take to be either the bold "Hyacinth" or another dressed in the uniform I recall seeing illustrated years ago. The lapels are yellow, the tails long, the breeches and shako a light blue. |

The first volume of John Elting's "Napoleonic Uniforms" has some great Knotel plates of various ADC uniforms, including the yellow worn by Soult's aides in Spain. It also has plates showing Bernadotte's guides. |

Thanks, I own the Courcelle series, but strange nothing exists before this uniform. These are ADC's rather than 'Escort/ Guides' security, so perhaps I should create a new post rather than hijack this one. regards davew |
