Of course the development started a bit earlier, with the lactual (re-)introduction of the pike by the Swiss more then a 100 years earlier and the subsequent inclusion of shot into the armies to counter and cooperate with these pikeblocks. That said, the Dutch certainly made a large step (away from the pike) in that journey. |
