"Even as late as 1944, Red Army tank units were far from being populated entirely by T-34s. Sometimes colourful mixes like these went into battle, and their owners had to put up with a gently used fleet…."

I was reading through a TO&E listing and a guards tank brigade was converted from T-34/85 to Shermans. At first it looked crazy but the Sherman was known for it's reliability and if you broke through the Shermans could be used to exploit the breakthrough.

The Soviets used hundreds of BTs and T-26s Manchuria in 1945. There was also a T-26 equipped regiment still slugging it out in Finland in 1944.

Gamers I suspect the T-34 to Sherman was purely a logistics exercise. Not uncommon to standardise or degrade units to meet logistics requirement.

Eg even in the 1950s there were ANG units that switched from jets to P-51s!
