Really a pretty good idea and if MRAPs were deployed sooner it would have save some lives. There were earlier MRAP type vehicles which eventually saw combat in GWoT … link link |

And the South Africans had developed a lot of those techniques during the Bush War, first with the Buffel APC and later with the Casspir. |

The problem is how heavy the early MRAPs are. some are 30 tons! The M-ATVs are better, they're "only" 30,000lbs. The new JLTVs are 15,000lbs. |

Yes both the South Africans and IDF developed MRAP type vehicles years before the US did. I saw a pic and write up of the JLTV … still a much better improvement over an Armored HMMWV. |
