I never miss obituaries of aged veterans in my regular newspaper, but would love to have learnt more about this man. His origins, how he entered the Navy, his post service life, his family if any, his interests, his age at death even.

Fully appreciate that was not the purpose of this article, which concentrates solely on his contribution to the USN. But it lacks any personal touch……
