Like being inspired by a movie, reading recent posts on cavalry during the American Civil War, spurred me to examine my files of completed and partially completed articles and booklets on the civil war.

I updated my article on Alabama Regiments with their recruiting location and nicknames. I also reviewed a similar article on Mississippi units.

Next I ran across an article on skirmish and small action battles in Alabama. This one was partially completed. I did a running count and there were over 260 actions in Alabama. Many of these would provide interesting scenarios for gamers on skirmish level battles.
So I was wondering if the readers here think that it would be worth my time to complete this article. Thanks

I think it would be very useful. I recently read "Sherman's Horsemen" about the Union cavalry raids around Atlanta and was impressed by the many skirmishes and small battles that could inspire game scenarios. I look forward to reading about the actions in Alabama, so bring it on!

A "yes" vote from me.

It seems that with the proliferation of war-game rules like Rebels and Patriots that games involving small battles or large skirmishes are popular now, and so information about battles at that scale would be very useful.

I will work on the Skirmish article. One thing about the CSA is if they are a home guard unit, the variety of weapons used would be vast. Shotguns, pre-war muskets (used by locals for hunting) pistols and weapons brought back by soldiers on recovery leave.

There was also an incident very similar to the Horse Soldiers movie involving the Athens AL youth military academy.

Who are you doing the article for?

Rudysnelson08 Mar 2020 10:19 a.m. PST

Nobody, I used to have a magazine listed on a website, Time Portal Passage but they shut down about a decade or more ago.
Now, I enjoy the research and have a number of articles and booklets in various stages of completion. When I get the itch, I edit them again.

Yes please! Plus wish to read your article on Mississippi units too.
