"The Type 055 Class, which is the successor to Type 052D guided missile destroyers, is being built indigenously by Jiangnan Shipyard (Group) and Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Company (DSIC) for the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN).

The Type 055 Class destroyers can be deployed in long-range air defence, anti-surface warfare (ASuW), anti-air warfare (AAW), anti-submarine warfare (ASW), electronic warfare (EW), land and maritime strike, escort, long-range patrol and surveillance missions.

The keel for the first Type 055 Class destroyer was laid in late-2014 and the launching ceremony was held at Jiangnan Shipyard in June 2017. The warship is expected to be commissioned by the PLAN in 2018. Three more destroyers are currently in various stages of construction…"
