I'm midway through painting some Museum Z and Xyston 15mm Indian archers but I can't decide/find how many to have per base, 3 or 4? I'm new to the format, the last time I played was with WRG v6 in @87!… is it just personal preference? Bonus question… with ADLG, why the prevalence for circular command bases vs rectangle vs in a unit? |

Under FOG the archers can be classed as either regular or irregular troops. They are classed as medium foot, so base size is the same at 40mm frontage by 20mm depth. I use 3 figures for irregulars, and 4 figures for regulars (Mauryans) |

DBMM has the same "3 or 4" option these days. |

What about the movement and combat for commanders that are individually based – looking at battle reports it seems most people go with individually based – is that because there is an advantage in being able to choose whether or not to join melee combat? |

(I am trying to work out what basing to use to make my commanders happy with DBMM or ADLG;) Maybe the answer is: options.) |

Bonus question… with ADLG, why the prevalence for circular command bases vs rectangle vs in a unit?Personal choice Yes, personal choice … but it does also help distinguish the commanders from similar looking troop elements (which in ADLG, unless specifically in a unit, they are not). (I am trying to work out what basing to use to make my commanders happy with DBMM or ADLG;) Maybe the answer is: options.) I have some that are magnetically based individuals so I can switch them into DBA style 'General's elements or onto round vignettes for ADLG (or FoG or Armati) … Phil |

In the DBA 3 lists, some Indian armies have bow fast eg 3 per base, and others bow solid at 4 figs per base. So you begin by deciding which Indian army you want. |

For ADLG I double base them on a 40mm by 40mm and put my bowmen in 8s for normal and 6s for mediocre units for easy identification. I don't have any elite Bow yet so that is not a problem. The circular bases is just so they don't get swept up as a unit, Though my armies were built for Armati so I have a lot of Generals moving from army to army. |

If I'm reading my DBMM Army Lists correctly, and I think I am, Classical Indian Bw are based three to a stand. |

DBA 3.0 II/3a Classical Indian Army 500 BC-178 AD: , 3 x archers (4Lb), II/3b Classical Indian Army 179 AD-545 AD: 3 x archers (3Lb), II/1 Republican Indian Army: 1 x chariots (HCh) or cavalry (Cv) or archers (3/4Lb) or clubmen (3Bd), 6 x archers (3/4Lb). DBA 2.0 II/ 3. Classical Indian. 500BC-545AD. 2xHCh or 2LCh or 3/4Lb, 1x4Bd or 3/4Lb or 2Ps, 4x3/4Lb. II/ 1. Republican Indian. 500BC-321BC. 1x3/4Bd or 3Lb, 8x3Lb. I had 4 Classical Indian armies based as for 2.2. Phil said no changes in basing for 3.0 so I kept my 3Lb for the earlier classical army. I treat it as solid, however. |
